To end off my 2021 wedding season, I had the pleasure of photographing Vincci and Yama’s wedding at none other than the beautiful Ajax golf course, Deer Creek! The newlyweds’ wedding was filled with emotion, intimate moments, and laughter, as the fusion of their two unique ethnicities came together beautifully on their special day.
Vincci and Yama reached out to me to document their wedding day a few months out from their fall wedding date! I was so glad to have been available, as the two are so genuinely down to earth. In our initial conversations together, I got the chance to get to know them to learn about what holds dear to their hearts, as well as their vision for their wedding day. They stressed that they wanted their wedding to be a fun and awesome time for all their family and friends with good food and endless dancing.
Their day began at the house, where the two families got together to celebrate the traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony in their bold red and gold outfits. This was a first for me and it was so interesting to be a part of such an intimate event. The ceremony involved a series of hilarious Door Games and exchanges of a cup of tea to Vincci and Yama’s elders with heartfelt words given by the elders to kick off married life on a positive note. This moment was so special as the tears were coming down all their faces, especially since Vincci shares deep bonds with her parents and grandmother.
At Deer Creek, Vincci swapped into her beautiful white dress only to surprise Yama during their first look just outside the exterior of the venue. The two were able to share a moment together and was later joined by their wedding party where more laughs were to be had.
Then came time for their ceremony and Vincci’s father becomes teary-eyed after handing his daughter off to Yama. This was one of the highlights of the ceremony, which had all the emotions, from exchanging heartfelt vows to laughter between the heartfelt moments.
Vincci and Yama were then able to let loose and relax after their ceremony during their reception, where they got the chance to listen to some kind words from their family and friends, as well watching a video on the big screen of family and friends who were also able to give their kind words. The whole room belted in laughter while listening to the angel-like voices from the homemade music video Vincci’s sister had also put together.
As they had originally envisioned for their wedding, their night ended with what seemed to be endless dancing filled with energy and cultural dance moves! The couple, along with many of their guests, swapped into cultural outfits from Afghanistan, celebrating the culture and their passion for dancing. It was such a fun experience to be a part of!
Vincci and Yama ultimately wanted an experience to capture all the emotions and joy from their day. They want to be reminded of that warm and comforting feeling when they look back at their photographs in the future capturing the essence of their love.
I think we did just that.
